30/11 The impact of digitization on the creative industry, part 1 0

The Internet has fundamentally changed the way we live, work and communicate.
It has had a profound impact on all areas of the economy, including the creative industries.  Both Internet and digitization have opened up myriad possibilities for collaboration; online platforms have given people the tools and resources they need to organize themselves in new ways.

It's enabled people to create and distribute their own content and create content with others. It has democratized the creation of creative content, and in so doing, challenged traditional industry models in film, music and publishing. New stars are rising from YouTube and MySpace; writers and artists are showcasing their works on blogs and websites; and online tools such as wikis are enabling a new kind of collaboration. There are platforms for information, for connecting (including social networking sites), for co-production and funding (or crowd funding). New platforms, projects and collaborations are popping up all over the globe.

The impact of digitization on the creative industry, part 1
Today at 4pm-6pm CET at Waag Society/UCAM

This meeting we focus on art and design practitioners in Brazil and the Netherlands:

- What are their ideas about the impact of digitization on the creative industry? How do they prepare for the constantly changing professional field?
- What is happening in Brazil? What is happening in the Netherlands?
- What can the creative industry in the Netherlands and in Brazil gain from each other in terms of new ideas, new expertise, new business or new production chains?
- Is there interest in closer connections between the 2 countries and is there interest in experimenting with new digital and online possibilities like the facilities of Dialogue Cafe, which enables artist and designers to start an intercultural/ international collaboration?

In this meeting we will explore the professional field of art and design in Brazil and the Netherlands and their mutual interest. We will look for possibilities to tighten the relations between Brazil and the Netherlands by initiating a collaboration project between artist, designers and art foundations like Funarte in Brazil and Sica and Premsela in the Netherlands, using the facilities of Dialogue Cafe.

Forgotten Diaries 0

We are delighted to announce a new partnership between Forgotten Diaries and Dialogue Cafe!

Forgotten Diaries is a unique project which aims to raise awareness of the several under-reported "forgotten" conflicts currently occurring around the world and empower young people living in these zones with the skills and tools they need to start and grow community development and peace building projects. Their unique and innovative approach involves the use of a dedicated web platform which connects up to five young bloggers from each of 13 'forgotten' conflict zones around the world, allowing them to share their stories and present a human face to each crisis. Furthermore, they empower youth from forgotten conflict and post-conflict zones through mentoring, training and grants to start youth-led community peacebuilding projects.

Their site has already received tens of thousands of visits and won praise from organizations including the Pulitzer Centre, Oxfam and Microsoft.

Forgotten Diaries was recently awarded the prestigious World Summit Youth Award. 630 applications were received from over 100 countries and Forgotten Diaries was selected as one of three winning projects for the category "Pursue Truth". The World Summit Youth Award seeks to recognize and promote highly innovative youth-led projects which use digital and online content in a creative manner to work towards improving living conditions in developing nations and achieve the UN's Millennium Development Goals.
